Most itineraries in Pakistan run straight north to the mountains. The Punjab plains hold a different journey: shrines, poetry and music that have shaped the region for eight hundred years.
Thursday evening in Lahore
Thursday night is the traditional time for qawwali. The courtyard sessions at Data Darbar and the drum ritual at Shah Jamal draw crowds from across the city.
We go with a local host, arrive early for a good spot, and brief guests on what to wear and how to sit — small courtesies that matter a great deal here.
Friday — the old city
Wazir Khan Mosque at opening time, the Delhi Gate bazaar, then the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort in the late afternoon when the brick warms up.
Saturday — Pakpattan
A three-hour drive south to the shrine of Baba Farid, one of the earliest Punjabi poets. It is far less visited by foreigners than Lahore and the welcome is remarkable.
Going respectfully
Modest dress, covered heads for women inside shrines, shoes removed, and always ask before photographing people at prayer. Our guides handle donations and etiquette so you can simply be present.
